Guatemala

In summer 2009, student-interns worked with Faith in Practice in Guatemala. Faith in Practice serves the poor in Guatemala through medical and dental brigades and health-related educational programs. Rice students worked with physicians to gather feedback on a backpack for obstetric and gynecological care in remote settings, and organized and analyzed statistics about cervical cancer screenings in Guatemala.

In summer 2008, student-interns worked with Faith in Practice to gather feedback on a pack designed to deliver dental care in remote settings, create dental hygiene education materials, and organize equipment for medical mission teams to perform VIA and cryotherapy in rural communities. The students also designed and implemented educational programs for women about nutrition and reproductive health.
