Prof. Doutor Cesaltina Lorenzoni (MD, MSc, MPH, PhD) is a pathologist, Head of the National Cancer Control Program at the Mozambican Ministry of Health (MOH) and Scientific and Teaching Director at Maputo Central (HCM) Hospital. She is Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the Eduardo Mondlane University (UEM). Dr. Lorenzoni graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of UEM. She holds a Master's Degree in Public Health in Cancer Epidemiology through the UEM (MPH), a Master’s Degree in Policies, Health Program Planning, and a PhD in International Health from the University of Barcelona, ​​Spain.

She has published more than 80 articles in peer-reviewed journals, and has authored chapters in two books published by AFCRN, IARC,WHO and UICC. Served as principal investigator on research projects such:

  • Records of population based cancer registries in Mozambique
  • Project ECHO as a tool to assist providers in Mozambique delivering cervical cancer screening services through telementoring
  • Prevention of cervical cancer through the development and use of lower cost methods for detection of HPV and development of new technologies for diagnosis of pre-invasive cervical disease
  • A Training Program for Obstetrics & Gynecology Residents in the diagnosis and management of women with pre-invasive cervical disease
  • U54- Assessment of new technologies for the screening and diagnosis of cervical cancer in Mozambique
  • The AVANҪO Research Consortium:Alliance to advance novel and affordable technologies for the prevention and diagnosis of cervical cancer of women living with HIV
  • The Center for Innovation and Translation of Point-of-Care Technologies for Equitable Cancer Care

She served as a Chair of the Education and Training Committee Cancer of AORTIC and the representative of PALOP. In July of 2024 she receives an Award in Washington by Global Health Catalyst Summit -Distinguished Global Health Leader Award (Africa) In September of 2022 she receives an Award in New York by International Gynecologic Cancer Society-Community Advancement in Resource-Limited Settings. She also served as the President of Association of Fight Against Cancer of Mozambique from 2013 to July 2022. In November 2023 she was elected President of AORTIC (African Organization on Research and Training in Cancer).
