Audrey Battu is the Senior Director of Essential Medicines at the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI). In this role, she leads efforts to increase access to treatments for pediatric diarrhea and pneumonia, including the provision of medical oxygen in high-burden countries. Audrey works to expand market access to essential medicines by engaging both public and private sector stakeholders, aiming to remove barriers and scale up the availability of life-saving treatments. Under her leadership, CHAI's program has significantly increased diarrhea treatment rates and expanded to include pneumonia treatment in 2015. Her work on medical oxygen access gained further momentum in 2020 during the global pandemic, resulting in substantial support for countries in scaling up their oxygen systems.
Audrey's research includes studies on oxygen systems in Uganda, Ethiopia, and Nigeria, as well as enhancing pediatric diarrhea treatment in Ethiopia, India, Kenya, Nigeria, and Uganda. Since joining CHAI in 2009, she has also contributed to global operations, focusing on staff development, recruitment, and compliance. Audrey actively represents CHAI in various global working groups dedicated to child health. She holds a BA from Gordon College and an MPA from Northeastern University.
