About our graduate courses
The Rice360 Institute for Global Health Technologies is excited to offer three new graduate-level courses to any graduate student enrolled at Rice University. These courses aim to develop students' skills to foster cross-disciplinary collaborations, incorporate global health perspectives into their work area, and promote the development and utilization of technological innovations in healthcare globally. Additionally, through our seminar course, students will engage with world-renowned global health scholars.
GLHT 591: Fundamentals of Global Health and Needs Finding

Course Description:
GLHT 591 explores the global health landscape and methods for identifying gaps in healthcare. Students will learn the fundamentals of global and public health, covering topics such as epidemiology, health disparities, maternal and child health, chronic diseases, infectious diseases, and the role of technology in enhancing healthcare. The course also focuses on best practices and techniques for assessing needs in clinical settings, connecting these assessments to medical device innovation. This course incorporates both lecture-based instruction and experiential learning.
GLHT 593: Global Health Resource Mobilization and Advocacy

Course Description:
GLHT 593 is designed to improve students' skills in advocating for global health initiatives to three key groups: researchers, policymakers, and entrepreneurs. Throughout the course, students will gain insights into global health funding and development landscapes, global regulatory markets, and the roles that both public and private sector organizations play in advancing global health technologies. Through research and group discussions, students will enhance their oral and written communication skills to effectively support global health initiatives.
GLHT595: Global Health Technologies Seminar

Course Description:
GLHT 595 features prominent global health leaders in a monthly seminar format who provide insights into various global health concepts. This course aims to expose students to the extensive field of global health technology and provide opportunities to explore how to incorporate global health principles into their work. Students will also explore the connections between their department of study and global health concepts. Additionally, during weekly journal club sessions, students will discuss the speakers' presentations, related readings, and other insights into global health.
