Distinction in Research and Creative Works

About the Distinction

The Distinction in Research and Creative Works is awarded to graduating seniors whose work goes above and beyond standard undergraduate course requirements. Students who have made significant contributions to the GLHT program, advanced health equity, or led impactful research or creative efforts related to global health technologies are strongly encouraged to apply.

The distinction is awarded at commencement and is noted on both the student’s official transcript and diploma.


Eligible Project Categories

Projects submitted for consideration may include, but are not limited to, the following categories:

  • Design Context Analysis - Analyses of social, cultural, economic, clinical, or policy contexts relevant to the global health technology design and implementation. 
  • Creative Work - Original creative outputs such as design prototypes, multimedia projects, educational tools, software, or other artifacts with a clear global health focus.
  • Programs and Initiatives - Substantial leadership or participation in programs, initiatives, or organizations that advance global health technologies or health equity

Application

Students must apply to be considered for this distinction, with endorsement from a faculty/staff member (either from Rice or an affiliated/non-Rice institution). Applications should include electronic evidence of the student’s research or creative work, such as written documents, presentation slides, publications or patents, or videos documenting their efforts.

Submissions are reviewed by a committee composed of GLHT Minor Advisors, GLHT-affiliated faculty, and leadership from the Rice360 Institute.

 

Students graduating in December 2025, May 2026, and August 2026 must declare their intent and submit the application by April 15, 2026.
