Dr. Catharine Young, from South Africa, has a doctorate degree in Biomedical Sciences and currently works at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. Her job is to help advance the Cancer Moonshot initiative, which is aimed at reducing cancer deaths by 50% over 25 years. Catharine has worked on cancer-related projects before. She was previously the Senior Director of Science Policy at a nonprofit called the Biden Cancer Initiative. This group brought people from different fields together to find new ways to fight cancer. She also led efforts to raise awareness and make policy changes for rare cancers. Before working with the Biden Cancer Initiative, Catharine served as the Senior Science and Innovation Policy Advisor and Head of the DC team for the Foreign Ministry of the UK. She has received several awards for her work and is an advocate for more women in STEM fields.
