Joseph Lubega, MD, MPH, CPE
Dr. Joseph Lubega is Associate Professor of Pediatrics, Pediatric Hematology and Oncology at Baylor College of Medicine/Texas Children's Hospital, and Director of Texas Children's Hospital's Global HOPE Program.With Texas Children's Hospital's Global HOPE Program, he led the establishment of the first university-accredited pediatric hematology and oncology clinical fellowships in Eastern Africa – at Makerere University and Muhimbili University of Health & Allied Sciences, which have trained 36 of the pioneer specialists in the field for this region. He spearheaded the establishment of the Continental Strategy for Sickle Cell Disease for Africa, under the auspices of the Africa CDC. He is internationally recognized as a leader in global child health. In 2024, he was recognized by The Lancet Oncology as a pioneer in this field.
Dr. Lubega has broad experience in health systems, having trained and/or practiced in 15 academic medical centers in Africa, Europe, and the USA, in Surgery, Geriatrics, Family Medicine, and Pediatrics. In addition to Pediatric Hematology and Oncology, he has formal qualifications in Public Health, Pediatric Cancer Epidemiology, Executive Physician Leadership, Implementation Science, and Health Cost Analysis.
