Rice360 hosted its 16th Undergraduate Global Health Technologies Design Competition on April 24, 2026, at the BRC at Rice University in Houston, Texas. The competition brought together 22 teams from seven countries to compete for top honors with their designs of low-cost, scalable solutions to improve healthcare in resource-limited settings. The keynote was delivered by Dr. Joseph Lubega.
First place was awarded to Rice University's Team AGILE; second place to Virginia Tech's Team Surgical Stapler; and third place to Team AnkleGlide from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology.
Boston University's Team MaternalScreen won the Crystal Sea Award. The DEI award went to Team LumiCare from Achievers University in Nigeria. Rice University's Team Retinex won the Public Invention Incremental Improvement Award. Team BioDrip from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology won the People's Choice Award. And the Open Source Award went to Team Surgical Stapler from Virginia Tech.
