In March 2026, Rice University's Rebecca Richards-Kortum was interviewed by National Public Radio for the Academic Minute. She discussed her team's research to develop a simple, affordable test for human papillomavirus, or HPV, the virus responsible for nearly all cases of cervical cancer, through a partnership between Rice University, the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, and partners in Mozambique.
